Its position on the downtown waterfront provides access to Miami's business district and entertainment venues. The property features 652 rooms and 22 suites across its 34-story building, with 135,000 square feet of meeting space distributed across 35 meeting rooms, including outdoor space.
The hotel's most distinctive feature is Henry Moore's Spindle, an 18-foot, 70-ton sculpture of travertine marble around which the building's grand lobby was designed. Architect Pietro Belluschi created the Grand Lobby with Italian marble slabs and precious African wood. The design reflects the hotel's 1982 construction, which began with the sculpture rather than the typical approach of decorating after building. The hotel was originally designed to be a casino before becoming a hotel property.
The hotel's downtown location provides convenient access to Miami's cultural and entertainment destinations. Guests can arrange concierge experiences including Cuban culinary tours of Little Havana and Calle 8, personalized salsa dancing lessons with live local bands, gallery tours in Wynwood art district, and private mural walks. Helicopter tours and sunset paddle experiences are also available through the concierge at 305-577-1000 x 4058. The property has hosted major sporting events including 3 world baseball classics, 6 Orange Bowls, the College Football Championship (2021 and 2026), 6 Super Bowls, and an MLB Allstar game.
The hotel has been serving Miami since 1982, with approximately 500,000 visitors annually from both guests and local visitors. The hotel has been the official home of the Orange Drop on New Year's Eve for more than 25 years, a custom-built display fitted to the hotel's exterior apex. The property employs over 400 colleagues, 33 of whom have been with the hotel for more than 25 years, and 30% have tenure exceeding 10 years. The InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball has been presented annually for 30 consecutive years to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida.
